I have quickly become a self proclaimed ‘Personal Growth Junkie’! If I am not doing multiple things everyday to grow myself on the inside I am not a happy camper. Each morning I wake up hungry to grow deeper, learn more, and become my very best. I’m addicted to growing personally and reaching my potential.
However, I wasn’t always like this! It wasn’t until I read this quote by Viktor Frankl, author of Man’s Search for Meaning, that I truly began to desire to grow as a person.
“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”
I don’t know about you, but in my life there were many situations that I wanted to see changed, but it seemed like nothing was happening. In some of the situations I was facing, they seemed to continue to get worse. Have you ever been there?
The moment I read this quote it was like a light bulb went off in my head and I realized I needed to change myself! It was a tough truth to learn, but at the end of the day it was just that the TRUTH! Therefore, I set out on a quest to change myself.
At first it was difficult and I didn’t want to get up early, read, or do any of the practical steps I am about to share with you. However, once I got through the first 30 days my life changed dramatically and so did my situations.
I want to share with you the 3 simple things I implemented into my daily plan to grow personally and ultimately change my life!
1. Wake Up 30 Minutes Earlier Than You Need To
I know, this one is the worst, right? This was the biggest struggle for me starting out. I didn’t like to wake up early and the thought of missing even 30 minutes of sleep upset me! However, after months of failed attempts to try and get up 30 minutes earlier than I had to, I finally succeeded for 21 days in a row.
Those 21 days changed my life and I’ve been addicted ever sense! Now I get up 2 hours earlier than I need to! Please know I am not saying you need to do that, but I am saying that 30 minutes a day will change your life! I promise you this by giving up 30 minutes of extra sleep you will gain a whole lot more productivity and overall happiness.
I know because I am a living example! This key is crucial! So what do you do in those extra 30 minutes you may ask? The next two keys will give you a little plan.
2. Read For At Least 15 Minutes Each Day
Leaders are readers and you may not lead an organization but you do lead yourself. Whether you choose to read your Bible, a book you’ve been wanting to reach, or a few articles you want to learn from, you will benefit tremendously from reading for 15 minutes each day! No, reading your Social Media accounts doesn’t count for your 15 minutes of reading.
You will find that reading energizes your mind each day and soon you will crave reading each morning. Will it be a challenge some of the mornings? Absolutely. It was for me, but once it becomes a habit it will soon become an addiction! Once this becomes a daily habit you will naturally grow because you are pouring knowledge that is expanding you into yourself!
3. Think and Journal for At Least 15 Minutes Each Day
Finally, take 15 minutes to think and journal. If you are a believer take this time to commit your day to God. Why is this important you may ask? This is important because most of us are on autopilot in our brains and lives. We simply respond to life, get busy in our day to day lives, and don’t take time to really assess what we think or how we feel. This oftentimes leads to undiagnosed dissatisfaction with life that takes away our internal joy.
By taking time each day to think and journal you will find that you are more in touch with how you feel and what you essentially want in this life. You will expand your thinking and get in touch with yourself like you never have before. This practice changed my life and made my conversation more invigorating because I actually had thoughts to share. Prior to taking time each day to do this I was on autopilot and was simply responding to life. Once I started thinking and journaling each day my joy increased because I was awakening myself and my personal desires.
It is my hope that you will try to implement these 3 practical ways to grow each day. Take it from someone who struggled for years and years, but transformed her life through daily personal growth practices! I promise you your life will never be the same if you do!
May you be forever encouraged, empowered, and equipped to live to your ultimate potential.
